Small Business Pitfalls – #3 Missing Skill Set, Qualifications, or Experience 7/13

Be brutally honest about what you know, don’t know, what you are qualified to do, and what experience you have. Everyone in business or starting a business should have or get general business and enterprise training, even if it’s an online course or a non-credited night course from your community or schools. Don’t think because you’re the business owner that you can skip this because you can’t spare the time and money an always be spent somewhere else. This training is critical to your success.

Different businesses will have different requirements that demand formal certification or qualifications. Make sure you understand and take what is required and arrange for ongoing refresher courses if needed.

Items that can cause your business to fail include:

Overlooking Training

Not taking the time to ensure you know how to actually run a business

Not getting trained on marketing, finance, recruitment etc.

Not taking refresher courses or taking the time to learn more skills
